COVID19 & Wellness: Mental Health Awareness Month 2020

It's Mental Health Awareness month and in the midst of a global pandemic. So what does wellness look like for you and me in 2020, before and after COVID19?
We can start with the basics, and what is wellness, "the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal." Wellness is the essence and condition of being in optimal overall health. Ideally it's an actively sought out goal and lifestyle that promotes this wellness.

As this global COVID19 outbreak took over our lives and new normal of wearing masks and gloves to run errands. There was little time to be still and soak it all in. We're still living in an era of busyness, adjusting to quarantines, social distancing, Zoom video calls, avoiding social isolation. Our calendars and daily to do lists continues to grow! Filled work from home schedules and days filled with meetings with colleagues, clients or patients. Parents with children at home 'schooling,' on Zoom then add endless social media feeds & consumption.
So it can be a challenge to find wellness and easy for stress or even burnout to find its way into our lives!

To stay well each of us owes it to ourselves to carve out time and practice wellness self-care to live our best healthiest lives, even in the midst of a pandemic! Here's some tips:

First by making ourselves a priority and recognizing our own needs, even if we have families to care for. And secondly making time for our mental health via mindfulness activities like meditation, yoga, 'mask on' walks or even reading a fav of mine, which counts too! Next limit your consumption of the news and social media feeds! These can consume our minds and lead to endless distractions and rumination of all death, sadness, violence etc. plaguing the world.

Finally to balance things out, we can care for our physical health by managing our weight, a resl challenge in midst of this quarantine life and comfort food cravings! Hopefully you can fit in some cardio activity like brisk walks, jumping rope, sit ups or bike rides. Along with balanced nutrition and foods rich in vitamins especially C and D, minerals like Zinc, fiber rich foods, green and any colorful veggies you like, fruits, and always plenty of water! Cheers to balanced mental, physical, and spiritual health even in the midst this coronavirus pandemic.
